The hotel building, first opened in 1940 and fully renovated in 2000, was designed by Arnold Matteus, a former renowned city architect of Tartu. In 1964, Urho Kaleva Kekkonen, the President of the Republic of Finland, stayed at the hotel. The room in which he stayed bares his name at the moment.
